The 3 day mountaineering course takes place in the mountains of the stunning central French Pyrenees and may culminate in the ascent of one of the highest peaks in the area, depending on conditions and your ability.
You will be collected from Tarbes/Lourdes airport and taken to your accommodation for the night which is in a beautiful setting up the valley from Luz-Saint-Sauveur. Here you’ll get a good meal and a good nights sleep in shared rooms.
You’ll be collected from the accommodation by your guide in the morning and taken up to the mountain refuge which will be your base for the summer alpinism course. Here, you’ll sleep in bunk rooms and share delicious home-cooked food around a big convivial table with fellow mountain lovers.
What can I expect from this alpinism course?
The course is an introduction to Alpine-style mountaineering in which you will learn techniques and skills that will give you confidence in a higher mountain environment. As numbers are limited to 3 people you will be closely supervised and coached by your experienced and highly qualified high mountain guide.
The skills you’ll learn will include the following. However, this is a fully flexible alpinism course and may be adapted as you go along to take into account any weaknesses you’d like to address.
Introduction to climbing equipment and rope work Moving together with the rope Ice axe and crampon techniques Understanding mountain weather |
Abseiling and prussiking techniques Rope techniques for different terrain Mountain navigation |
After your final day of instruction you’ll stay another night in the refuge from where you can head out for a self-guided hike the following day and a walk back to your accommodation in the valley below. A taxi transfer will return you to Tarbes/Lourdes airport for your flight home.
