Trail running, fell running, mountain running holidays, the Pyrenees have endless possibilities for the offroad runner.
Our guided mountain running holidays are based in the Bagnères-de-Luchon area, bang in the centre of the Pyrenees chain.
This is a mecca for trail and mountain runners with a great variety of off road running both in the higher mountain environment and also in the valleys.
We specifically use local guides for our mountain running holidays. They are experts in this high mountain environment and know just where to take you to experience the very best mountain running that the area has to offer.
You’ll have the opportunity to visit both Spain and France in one day as you follow your mountain running guide up into the mountains and over the border on one of the most beautiful and yet challenging trail running circuits around.
The area is home to more 3000m peaks than in any other part of the Pyrenees including Pic Aneto, the highest peak in the Chain at 3404m. If you are looking for a mountain running challenge, this area is for you.
What’s the mountain running like in the Pyrenees?
There is a huge variety of trail and mountain running in the Luchon area of the Pyrenees and it is all just stunningly beautiful. There are circuits of varying lengths, height gain and technical difficulty to create a varied and interesting week.
You’ll discover narrow mountain paths more commonly used by sheep, steep technical rocky descents that will test your balance and long steady climbs that will test your cardio.
The Luchon-Aneto trail race in early July is always the highlight of the ultra running calendar in the area. The main event is 75kms/4500m+ but with two other race possibilities of 45km/2800m+ and 14kms/650m+. We would be happy to arrange entry for anybody that may be interested.
What can I expect from this mountain running holiday?
We will do our best to ensure that each mountain running holiday is made up of people of similar abilities with similar expectations for their week.
Each days’ mountain running will be designed around the general consensus but the week will always start off with a few gentler runs to introduce you to the Pyrenees. Route choices will obviously take into account weather conditions at the time.
There are plenty of possibilities for rest and recovery with both a natural hammam and an outdoor swimming pool in Luchon. There will also be an option for a consultation with a nutritional therapist as well as a Pilates class.
You may also be relieved to hear that we have sports physio contacts in the area to ensure you stay in tip top form during your mountain running holiday.
Mountain running holiday options
Our main mountain running guide is female and we are delighted to offer women’s only trail running weeks on request.
We are also proud to welcome trail and fell running clubs to the Pyrenees. If you wish to give your members a unique and memorable mountain running experience, we have everything in place to make it happen.
